THYROID

Thyroid disorders have become increasingly prevalent in today’s fast-paced world, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. The thyroid, a small butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck, plays a crucial role in regulating various bodily functions. At Dietician Yashna’s Diet Clinic, we understand the complexities of thyroid health and offer specialized care to help you manage thyroid-related challenges.

1. Hypothyroidism:

  • Characterized by an underactive thyroid gland, leading to insufficient hormone production.
  • Symptoms may include fatigue, weight gain, cold sensitivity, and dry skin.

2. Hyperthyroidism:

  • Occurs when the thyroid is overactive, resulting in excessive hormone production.
  • Symptoms may include weight loss, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, and increased sensitivity to heat.

3. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis:

  • An autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the thyroid gland.
  • This can lead to hypothyroidism as the gland is damaged and hormone production decreases.

4. Graves' Disease:

  • Another autoimmune disorder causing the thyroid to be overactive.
  • It may lead to hyperthyroidism due to excessive hormone production.

Points to Consider for Thyroid Wellness

Balanced Diet

A well-balanced diet with adequate nutrients like iodine, selenium, and zinc is essential for thyroid health.

Iodine-Rich Foods

Include iodine-rich foods like seaweed, iodized salt, and fish to support thyroid function.

Gluten Awareness

For individuals with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, adopting a gluten-free diet may be beneficial.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Cooked cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage in moderation can be consumed

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Incorporate foods rich in omega-3s, like flaxseeds, walnuts, and fatty fish, to support thyroid function.

Limit Goitrogens

Reduce the consumption of raw goitrogenic foods like kale and spinach, as they can interfere with thyroid function when eaten in large quantities

Regular Exercise

Engaging in regular physical activity can help support thyroid function and overall well-being.
